What is Mind-Body Medicine?

Mind-Body, holistic health, alternative medixine, whole health healing

"Mind-Body medicine is a fully accepted part of science, and first addressed as far back as the 17th century by Rene Descartes, and discussed by the Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Huxley, Whitehead, Popper, Searle, and many more famed scientists and philosophers. It addresses the fact that actions, thinking, belief, and emotions can all reflect in the physical body, and vice versa. While the cause of this integration is not understood, and many people still argue about whether the mind and body are one or separate, the evidence is clearly outlined in Western Medicine, despite hospitals and doctors taking little note of it. Neuroscience and neuropathology prove that holistic methods work, because what affects the mind and emotions, affects the body.

You've probably noticed how if you are physically tired, your mind becomes less capable. If you are hurt or in pain, your brain focuses more on the pain, and less on something like remembering data. Similarly, if you are distracted by a problem or even your phone, focusing your mental energy on one thing, you are more likely to make a mistake, such as tripping while walking or even walking into something, because your mind and body work together to create a unified whole. When you are sad, you are more likely to get sick, when you are depressed, your body can feel physically ill. The mind, body, emotions, and spirit work together.

Holistic practices treat your mind and body as one for this reason, while also taking into consideration your mental, psychological, and emotional health. This allows you to treat the whole, fixing issues caused in one part of the mind or body by the other part."
